Weblog entry 11.1.-17.1.2007 KIWI South Island

It is a never ending argument which Island is more beautiful, but in my opinion there is a clear winner: the South Island. This Weblog entry will feature some of the reasons why…

North-West
- The north-West did not have one big highlight, but a few little things that made it a nice place to go to like the Punakaika Pancake Rocks

Franz Josef and Fox Glacier
- What makes these Glaciers so special is their proximity to the ocean, which makes them unique in the world. We took the opportunity to Heli-hike in the glacier. Not only was it my first hike on a glacier, but my first time in a helicopter as well. What an experience!

Milford Sound
- The Road from Te Anau to Milford Sound is without the most scenic one I´ve ever been on and probably the most scenic drive in the world. I did not know that a place like this even exists. As you drive into the fjords you pass these gigantic mountains with waterfalls everywhere! The scenery is just so stunning that you can`t stop saying WOW as it keeps getting better and better. We took 210 pictures in the one day we were there!

Queenstown
- Queenstown claims to be the adventure capitel of the world and when you get here you know why. You can do anything you like including Bungy jumping, Sky-diving, White water rafting, etc. They even offer things I have never heard of like White water Sledging, Luging, Monster truck driving…

Mount Cook
- What a scenery! We came to Mount Cook on a perfect day. The clear sky made the mountains even more impressive. The blazing turquoise lakes that lay in front of the mountains made for a perfect surrounding.

Christchurch
- This was the last destination of Mum and my long and beautiful journey. The most English city in NZ offers a beautiful botanic garden and urban atmosphere.
